World Snake Day! / by Pamela Garland

Today is World Snake Day so here’s my contribution: I noticed this snake in our backyard and knew it was different to those we usually see. This is an Indigo snake, so named because its entire body is an iridescent blue-black color. This is a non-venomous snake and the longest of the native snake species, growing up to 8.5 feet. It is also illegal to harm them since they are protected and appear on the “threatened” list so I shot it just with my camera!
