Lizard Lips / by Pamela Garland

I’ve been working on projects and haven’t taken my camera outside in the yard in a while but yesterday I captured this anole lizard on the back deck. He was a most cooperative subject, at least for a short time. For anyone that is interested, the hole on his neck is his ear. Lizards have no external ears but the eardrum is stretched across just underneath that hole. My research tells me they don’t hear as well as humans. The dewlap, the big bubble he is blowing out under his chin, is puffed out to claim territory and to attract a mate.
